Strategic Grantmaking

As a result of the current economic situation, the Corina Higginson Trust is working to be more strategic in its grantmaking. Please pay particular attention to the Trust’s stated purpose and target audience when preparing your application. Typical grant awards are about $5,000. LOIs and proposals must be in the Washington Regional Association of Grantmakers’ format. Be careful to follow all instructions regarding your application.

Application Process

The Corina Higginson Trust uses a two-step application process.

Step 1. Submit a Letter of Intent (for instructions and deadlines, review posts in those categories).
Step 2. If invited, submit a full proposal.

If your organization is invited to submit a full proposal, you will be notified.
Full proposals will be accepted by invitation only.
Full proposals must be in the Washington Regional Association of Grantmakers’ format.

Purpose and Target Audience

The Corina Higginson Trust makes grants to organizations based in or benefiting the greater Washington Metropolitan area. The Trust’s goals are:

  • to increase opportunities for individuals for the purpose of improvement and development of their capabilities;
  • to provide relief of the poor, distressed, and underprivileged;
  • to promote social welfare by organizations designed to accomplish any of the above purposes or to lessen neighborhood tensions;
  • to enhance opportunities for education about the arts and about the environment; and
  • to eliminate prejudice and discrimination; or
  • to defend civil rights secured by law.
